Step 1
Oatmeal Cylindrical Canister - Heather InksSave and clean an empty container to use as a compost keeper.
An empty large oatmeal container, the cylindrical ones, make good compost keepers. They can be lined with two plastic bags so that dumping the organic matter into the compost pile is easy.
Other containers that work well include large plastic jars, large glass jars, and large plastic containers with lids. -
Step 2
Oatmeal Canister Turned Cute & Stylish Kitchen Compost Temporary Storage - Heather InksSpray paint or brush a solid color on the container's outside. This color should match your kitchen or decor, preferably.
The container should be sprayed with the lid off so that the lid does not get sprayed stuck in place. -
Step 3
(optional) Spray the lid also if desired.
-
Step 4
Paint a cute customized design or expression on your compost keeper.
Design ideas:
A favorite scripture
A favorite expression
A favorite poem
A flower
Some garden bugs
Match a design already found in your kitchen on tile or plates, cups, etc. -
Step 5
(optional) Apply a 2 to 4 coats of clear gloss coat (spray on) or brush on sealer to an intricate design.

on 11/5/2009 This is a cute ideal if you are short on money and don't want to spend much on the real ones. Nicely written. 5*
