A soft reset will return an iPod to normal working order.

The fifth and sixth generation iPods, also known as iPod Video, may not always respond to the controls or they may stop playing back in the middle of a song or video. When your iPod Video becomes unresponsive, you need to perform a soft reset to return the device to working order. The soft reset function is the same for both the fifth and sixth generation iPods and none of your information is lost when a soft reset is performed.

Instructions

    • 1

Push the "Hold" switch on the top of the iPod to the right and then back to the left.

    • 2

Press and hold the "Menu" button on the top of the click wheel.

    • 3

Hold the center button, which is located in the middle of the click wheel, while continuing to hold the "Menu" button until the Apple logo appears on the screen of your iPod. The iPod will restart after resetting, which may take several seconds and up to a minute.
