Step 1
The first tip or innovation that can help nurses with back problems is the idea of team lifting. In other words, using a group of nurses or staff to help lift an individual can spread the burden over several people, limiting the back strain on a single nurse. Unfortunately, a staff shortage can cause problems here.

Step 2
If possible some simple equipment can possibly be used. Fitting patients with lift belts can help leverage themselves. Also, using a weight belt yourself could be helpful. It will help remind you to keep your back straight whenever possible and to lift at the knees and hips. These are probably the more general of tips for back relief.

Step 3
Whenever possible let the patients lift themselves up. This will allow them to be self-reliant and, in addition, relieve the strain on a nurse's back.
-
Step 4
Asking the chief of medicine for specialized lifting equipment also helps reduce the outbreak of nurse back injuries on the job. They may be expensive, but they tend to pay for themselves when you consider less leave time and more nurses on staff.
-
Step 5
If it can be afforded by a nurse, visiting a chiropractor, or another preventive doctor, can help bring relief to back pain and injuries.
-
Step 6
Another idea that a nurse can do on their own is buy the best quality mattress they can afford. A comfortable mattress is a great way to help get rid of, or at least not contribute to, back injuries.
