Things You'll Need:
- Stethoscope
- blood pressure cuff
- pen and paper
-
Step 1
Begin by having your supplies with you at the person's side that you wish to check the blood pressure on. Have the person sitting down and still as much as possible this will effect the blood pressure if moving around alot.
-
Step 2
Depending on what side you choose to check the person's blood pressure have them rest their arm in a resting position down by there side. Take the blood pressure cuff and wrap around person's upper arm making sure the inside labeled artery is over the bend of the elbow. Making sure you positioned to where you can see the gauge on the blood pressure cuff to be able to read the numbers.
-
Step 3
Make sure your valve on the blood pressure cuff is closed prior to pumping up the cuff. Place the stethoscope in your ears and place the bell of the stethoscope over the bend of the elbow towards the inside of the arm closest to the person.
-
Step 4
Start by pumping the blood pressure cuff up to at least 200 once you have reached this number or higher then slowly unscrew the valve and start letting the air out but remember to have your stethoscope in place and keep your eyes on the gauge.
-
Step 5
You will be listening for a heart beat sound while letting the air out of the cuff when you start to hear this noise make note of the number the gauge reads this will be your top number called the systolic number. Continue to release the air in the cuff slowly until you no longer hear the heart beat any longer make note of this number as before this will be your bottom number called the diastolic number, finish letting out the rest of the air in the cuff and remove cuff and record blood pressure on paper with date and time.
