A West Nile Virus infection can sometimes result in serious illness or even death. Proper prevention of West Nile Virus really comes down to mosquito control. Here's how to avoid the West Nile Virus that is transmitted through mosquitoes.

  • Bug Spray
  1. Step 1

    Protect yourself from mosquito bites by using adequate bug repellant. There are many products to choose from on the market today that will help you avoid getting bitten by mosquitoes. If you have problems with repellant, consider wearing additional clothing to limit bare skin exposure.

  2. Step 2

    Eliminate standing water. Standing water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Take the time to survey your yard for any standing water and eliminate it.

  3. Step 3

    Repair any openings in your home that may allow mosquitoes to enter. This could be a broken window or a screen in need of repair.

  4. Step 4

    Use sprays to eliminate mosquitoes in your yard. Products such as Tempo are good to eliminate unwanted mosquitoes, plus Tempo is approved for food establishments. So, it's a safe product. Other products are also available at most hardware stores. Make sure to spray shaded areas of your lawn. This is where mosquitoes like to gather in the heat of the day.
