When it comes to music, portability is key. If you have older music equipment that includes cassettes, you don't need to throw it all away and spend a lot of money upgrading. You can play your mp3 player, portable CD player or iPod through your cassette player by using a cassette adapter. They are inexpensive and can be used in home or car stereo systems.

Insert the cassette adapter into the cassette player. In an automobile, enter the adapter with the adapter cord on the outside edge. In a home cassette player, it does not matter what side the cord is on, but make sure the cord comes out of one of the sides of the player.

Connect the end of the adapter cord into the headphone jack on your device, whether it is a portable CD player, mp3 player or iPod.

  3. Step 3

Push play on the cassette player, as if you were playing a cassette.

  4. Step 4

Press play on your portable device. The volume can be adjusted through both the cassette player and your device volume control.

Tips & Warnings
  • When using the cassette adapter in the car, be sure your portable device has fresh batteries or a recent charge, as the charge can wear down quickly.
  • When inserting the cassette adapter into a home cassette player, alternate sides every other time you use it, otherwise the adapter cord can wear out if it is continually pinched in the door in the same spot.
