The Chevrolet Camaro carries on the tradition of the American muscle car into the twenty-first century. While the Camaro comes equipped with factory stereos and speakers, many audio enthusiasts will replace the factory components with high-performance aftermarket gear. However, it is necessary to remove the existing factory speakers to replace the speakers.

Things You'll Need:

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Panel tool
  • 1/4-inch socket, ratchet and extension tool
  • Drill

    Removing the Front Door Speakers

  1. Step 1

Take the Phillips screw out of the sail panel, the triangular plastic panel at the leading edge of the door and window. Pry the sail panel off with your panel tool after you have removed the screw.

  2. Step 2

Pry out the clip behind the window crank and remove the crank if equipped with manual windows. If equipped with power windows, take out the two Phillips screws holding in the door release trim that surrounds the power window switches. Pull the trim panel off after removing the screws, and disconnect the electrical connectors on the back side of the panel.

  3. Step 3

Take out three Phillips screws from the door armrest area. Slide the entire door panel upward firmly to remove it from the door proper.

  4. Step 4

Remove the 1/4-inch screws holding the speaker in place with your socket and ratchet. Pull the speaker out, and disconnect the wiring plug.

  5. Removing the Rear Speakers

  6. Step 1

Pry off the speaker grille covering the rear speakers by the rear seat. Slide the panel tool under the lower edge of the grille and work your way around the speaker to release the grille.

  7. Step 2

Remove the screws holding in the speaker with your socket and ratchet.

  8. Step 3

Pull the speaker out and disconnect the wiring plug.

  9. Removing the Speakers in the Hatch Area

  10. Step 1

Pry off the grill covering the speakers in the hatch (cargo) area.

  11. Step 2

Drill out the four rivets holding the speaker in place. Use a 1/8-inch bit.

  12. Step 3

Lower the speaker then rotate it to pull it up out of the opening. When the speaker is clear of the opening, disconnect the wiring plug connected to the speaker.
