How to Cut Circles in Wood

Cutting circles into wood is a simple woodworking project. There are many tools that you can use to get the task finished, but one of the best tools available is the scroll saw because of its removable blade and its ability to make precision cuts of any shape---especially circles.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a circular object on top of a block of wood.

    • 2

Trace around the circumference of the circular object with a pencil to draw a line you will cut. (If you want more than one circle, use small objects or bigger objects, depending on how big the wood is.)

    • 3

Drill a hole in the middle of the circle using the drill and a 1-inch drill bit.

    • 4

Remove the blade from the scroll saw.

    • 5

Slide the block of wood under where the blade sits.

    • 6

Slide the blade through the hole in the wood and replace it into the saw.

    • 7

Use the scroll saw to cut straight into the block of wood until you reach the traced line of the circle.

    • 8

Follow the circular line with the scroll saw's blade to cut a circle out of the wood.

    • 9

Repeat the steps to cut as many circles in the wood as desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • Jig saws also work to cut circles in wood as well as circle-cutting bits that can be used in drill presses.

  • As with all power tools, especially those that cut, be careful that your clothing doesn't get caught in the moving parts and keep your hands away from the blade when it is moving.
