    Instructions

Gather the resolve. Reflect on how your dreadful habit is harming you and your family. Think hard about the repercussions of falling seriously ill, for example, the money you'll spend on medication--or hospitalization, the negative effects on your business, job and lifestyle. Make a bold decision to quit smoking. Then be steadfast and resolute to stand by that decision.

Nip nicotine in the bud. As the tobacco in cigarettes is the source of nicotine, it makes sense to reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke everyday. Quitting smoking is a gradual process and incredibly difficult for most smokers to do at the drop of a hat.
So, start by cutting out one cigarette every day for a week. Try smoking two fewer per day the following week. Then continue this process until you reach a target of no cigarettes per day. This may sound difficult, but it can be done.

Resist temptation. While detoxing from nicotine, you may often find yourself in a situation that could re-ignite your craving for nicotine, break your resistance and compel you to reach for a cigarette.
Spending time with friends--specifically, with those who smoke--private parties, pubs and bars frequented by smokers or any other place where people gather, are some examples of situations that could make you vulnerable. Avoid such places as far as possible, as it will keep the temptation to smoke at bay.

Alter your diet. Consume foods that are nutrient-rich and easy to digest, such as low-fat dairy products, vegetables, fruits, legumes and nuts. Make sure to drink plenty of spring or steam-distilled water. This will also help to flush toxins from your body.

Increase your fiber intake. Fiber is ideal for flushing the intestines and colon of toxins, including nicotine, and other harmful waste matter. Foods with high fiber content include beans, oat bran and whole grains.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Try including supplements, natural foods and herbs in your diet, particularly those rich in vitamins B, C and E. Also consume an adequate amount of fresh fruit and vegetable juices. Fresh cayenne pepper, ginger and garlic have good antioxidant properties for flushing toxins from your body, as they can cause perspiration.

    • Keep off soda, carbonated drinks and alcohol. These are often consumed with cigarettes and may re-ignite your nicotine craving. Do not be close to people who smoke. Secondhand smoke has a cocktail of harmful carcinogens and toxins.
