Sleeping aids (pills) are over-the-counter or prescription medications taken by people with insomnia. Like all pharmaceutical medications, sleeping pills are processed in your liver as toxic chemicals, to be excreted later by the body. Failure to detoxify from sleeping aids could lead to liver toxicity. By employing natural remedies, you can successfully cleanse the liver from sleeping pills.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Milk thistle capsules
  • Dandelion capsules
  • Artichokes
  • Siberian ginseng extract
  • Turmeric
  1. Step 1

Take milk thistle capsules. The active ingredient in the milk thistle plant is a phytochemical called silymarin. Silymarin enhances your liver functions to clear the toxins left from pharmaceutical medications, including sleeping aids. The recommended dosage is one 175-mg capsule, twice daily with food.

  2. Step 2

Take dandelion capsules. The dandelion flower contains a powerful, active ingredient, inulin, that helps your liver detoxify from the chemicals of sleeping aids, while also regenerating itself. It is recommended to take a 750-mg capsule twice a day, one after each meal.

  3. Step 3

Eat plenty of artichokes. This vegetable contains the active phytochemical cynarin, which enhances liver cell regeneration, protection and detoxification, and is especially helpful in cleansing sleeping pills from the body. Add artichokes to your diet and consume daily.

  4. Step 4

Drink siberian ginseng extract. This root contains potent compounds called elutherosides, which helps your liver flush out harmful toxins left over from sleeping aids. You can find Siberian ginseng extract at an Asian supermarket. Drink at least one to two bottles daily as a beverage.

  5. Step 5

Consume turmeric for liver detoxification of sleeping aids. This common Indian spice contains two compounds called LOX and COX-2. These compounds increase the bile production in your pancreas, enabling your liver cells to break down and eliminate sleeping aid toxins. Add turmeric to most of your dishes, or eat Indian food regularly rich in turmeric spice.

Tips & Warnings
  • While most milk thistle and dandelion supplements follow the dosages in this article, other brands may follow a different dosage. Follow the dosage recommended in your bottle's instructions, if it differs. Detoxifying from sleeping aids takes about the same time as it takes to detoxify from any other pharmaceutical medication. The liver's function is to process all chemicals, regardless of what it takes in, and does not select which one to process individually.
  • While natural remedies can eliminate the physical detoxification of sleeping aids, they do not treat the psychological withdrawals. Consult your doctor for recommendations on psychological withdrawals from sleeping aids.
