How to Install a Linksys Wireless Print Server

The Linksys family of wireless print servers is popular with many consumers who need to connect a printer where it might be difficult to run cable. Because of the inexpensive cost of these devices and the associated time savings, connecting printers with wireless technology is gaining popularity.

        Connect your Linksys wireless print server to a hub (or switch) or directly into a computer with an Ethernet cable.

        Connect the print server to your printer's parallel port and turn on the printer. Plug in the power adapter and check that the LEDs light up.

        Insert the print server software CD and wait for the software to begin. Select the WPS11 from the main installation menu and click "Next."

        Click "Next" at the "Welcome" screen. Click "Next" to copy the files to the default folder. Click "OK" when the software installation is complete. Click the "Start" button, then select "Run." Enter "D:\Driver\Win9xnt\setup.exe" (if your CD-ROM drive is labeled as the "D" drive) and click "OK."

        Click "Next" to copy the files to the default folder. Click "Next" to create a folder on the "Taskbar" titled "Linksys PrintServer Driver." Check the box labeled "Configure Print Driver Now" and press "Finish." Click the "OK" button after reading the on-screen instructions.

        Select your printer, then click "Next." Install your printer drivers using your printer's factory-supplied CD.

        Repeat the steps for each computer sharing the printer through the print server.

        Remove the Ethernet cable from your print server to use it wirelessly.

      Linksys Wireless-G Installation

        Connect your Linksys Wireless-G print server to a hub (or switch) or directly into a computer with an Ethernet cable.

        Connect the print server to your printer using the parallel port or USB port and turn on the printer. (This print server can connect two printers.) Plug in the power adapter into an electrical socket and check that the LEDs light up.

        Insert the software CD into a computer. The software will begin automatically, and will locate the print server, identify it by name and the IP address. Click "Next." Click "Next" on the "IP Settings" page if you are using DHCP or add an unused IP address. Click "Next."

        Enter the WAP pass phrase if you are using WAP and press "Next." If you are using WEP, change the drop-down box to "Enabled" and click "Next" to enter the WEP key on the next page.

        Download the printer port driver from Linksys' site. Double click the Linksys printer driver to extract it.

        Click on wizard.exe, and select the printer to install. Remove the Ethernet cable to the print server to use it wirelessly. Repeat the steps for every computer that shares these printers.
