Step 1
Download and install the iPhone Ringtone Maker from the Efiko Software website (see Additional Resources). The download is free, and the software comes with a free trial period. After that, you must pay to keep the software, which was $7.50 in June 2009.

Launch iPhone Ringtone Maker on your computer. Click the "Make A Ringtone" tab at the top to get started.

Look for the area of the screen labeled "Get Music File." Click on "My Music Folder" if your MP3 file is located in your My Music folder. If it is located elsewhere on your computer, click on "Browse Computer" to select the MP3 file.

Use the green arrow to pick the place in the song that you want the ringtone to start. Slide the red arrow to the place that you want the ringtone to end. Aim for around a 30-second snippet of the song.

Step 5
Click "Create Ringtone" to convert MP3 to M4R. The new ringtone will save to the same location as the original MP3 file. Click "OK" when the conversion completes and you will be able to use the new M4R file.
