Things You'll Need:
- Bleaching kit
- Conditioning shampoo
- Blow-dryer
- Plastic mixing bowl
- Rat-tail comb
-
Step 1
Purchase a hair bleaching kit for your hair. Choose a bleaching kit from a reputable company such as Loreal or Clairol. The bleaching kits come with different peroxide volume levels. If you will be bleaching all your hair, choose the 20-volume peroxide bleaching kit, as this is the safest for your scalp.
-
Step 2
Wash and blow-dry your hair to remove all styling product buildup.
-
Step 3
Put on the plastic gloves that came with the kit. Pour some of the bleach powder into a plastic mixing bowl. Read the instructions for exact powder measurements. Mix the peroxide with the bleaching powder by pouring in a little peroxide at a time. Stir the mixture, while pouring the peroxide, with the wooden spatula that came with the kit. Stir it into a smooth consistency that is lump free.
-
Step 4
Seal the remaining unused bleach powder and peroxide tightly. This will keep the unused product fresh, so you can store it for future usage.
-
Step 5
Using a rat-tail comb, part your hair into four sections. One part should go down the middle of your head, from front to back. The second part should go across the middle, from one ear to the other ear.
-
Step 6
Apply the mixture to your hair using the kit's applicator brush. Start at the back of your head, working your way to the front. Cover your hair with a plastic cap that came with the kit. Allow the bleach to remain on your hair for the amount of time that is specified on the product instructions. Typically, the bleach will appear yellowish orange by the time you are ready to rinse.
-
Step 7
Rinse all the bleach mixture from your hair. Shampoo and condition your hair. Blow-dry and style as usual.
