Collecting vintage toys can be very lucrative, but it can be hard to find definitive values for toys in your collection. Happy Meal toys are a popular collector's item, but prices can fluctuate greatly depending on where you are selling the toys. Here are some tips for figuring out what the vintage Happy Meal toys in your collection are worth.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Track the sale of the same items on eBay. By tracking the price over time, you can get a sense of the range of value your pieces may have. To stay organized, try tracking prices using an Excel spreadsheet.

  2. Step 2

Travel to a McDonald's Collectibles convention, where you can have your collection valued. In addition, the club also runs a forum where you can learn more about valuing your collection.

  3. Step 3

Research the value of Happy Meal toys through specialty publications. For example, Barbie collectors might be interested in obtaining Barbie Happy Meal toys, so you might want to check the classified sections of vintage toy magazines to see what the going rate for those items may be. Many forums online can be a source of similar information.

  4. Step 4

Search for online merchants, such as Collector's Connection or Ronald McDonald Toys. They will list their prices, giving you a good idea of the value of your toys.

  5. Step 5

Purchase a price guide book such as McDonald's Happy Meal Toys Around the World by Terry Losonsky. A great deal of different Happy Meal toy value guides were written by Losonsky, so review his complete list of books to see which is the best one for you to purchase. Some of his books deal with toys by decade, while others list values for Happy Meal toys from other countries. The most recent Losonsky book is entitled "McDonald's Happy Meal Toys Around the World: 1975-1995" and was published in 2000.
