Ragged-edge cards

A ragged edge effect on a greeting card adds another dimension, especially when the cards are handcrafted. A tearing technique is used to rip away a small portion of the card along the edge, giving it an uneven finish. It can be attractive and can be torn in different ways. No two finishes are alike.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold in the right front edge of the greeting card about 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch, making a crease as a guide.

    • 2

Hold the card securely in one hand at the top, near the crease along the edge to be torn. With the thumb and forefinger of the other hand, start at the top and tear the edge at the fold slowly, a little at a time.

    • 3

Continue tearing the edge until one side of the card is completely torn off. The crease created in Step 1 serves as a guide along the tear line, but it is not necessary if you want to create a wavy and uneven, ragged edge.

    • 4

Proceed in the same manner to get a ragged edge look on all the greeting cards desired for your project.

Tips & Warnings

  • Making a ragged edge on cards can be done on varying thicknesses of paper and card stock used to make greeting cards.
