The name in use today for the swordfish comes from Linnaeus in 1758. The swordfish can be found in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. A swordfish can be almost 15 feet long and weigh as much as 1,400 pounds. One of the swordfish's favorite foods is the squid. The most common way to prepare the swordfish is by grilling. Swordfish is usually sold as steaks because they are a very meaty seafood. A tightly wrapped swordfish can be frozen for up to 3 months before preparation.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 (8-oz.) swordfish steaks
  • ½ cup teriyaki sauce
  • 2 tbsp. margarine
  • 2 tbsp. garlic powder
  • Non-stick cooking spray
  1. Step 1

    Marinate the swordfish steaks in the teriyaki sauce for 5 minutes per side.

  2. Step 2

    Spray the grill with a non-stick cooking spray. Fish always sticks to the grill. This will help the swordfish to come off the grill in one piece.

  3. Step 3

    Grill the swordfish steaks over medium coals for 5 to 6 minutes per side. Baste the swordfish frequently with the margarine.

  4. Step 4

    Season the swordfish with the garlic powder.

  5. Step 5

    Check the swordfish for readiness. The swordfish should be a little pink in the middle. If you let the swordfish cook to long, it will become dry.

  6. Step 6

    Remove the swordfish from the grill and serve.
