Step 1
Choose how compatible you want your instruments to be with other games. Guitar Hero World tour instruments are compatible with Rock Band on the PS3 and Xbox360, but not the Wii. Rock Band 2 is compatible on all consoles with Guitar Hero World Tour.
-
Step 2
Check what you already have. If you have a PS2 Guitar Hero controller, for example, it will work with Rock Band. But a PS2 Rock Band controller won't work with Guitar Hero. You'll have to decide if it's worth buying a new guitar if you're purchasing the game for an older system.
-
Step 3
Decide which song list is your favorite. You can download songs with both the games, but they will cost you money. There is a list of the songs on each game as well as the current downloadable songs in the Resource section below for you to compare.
-
Step 4
Consider games you've already purchased. Rock Band 2 allows players to download almost all the songs from the original Rock Band. Since Guitar Hero World tour is the first of its kind, the original Guitar Hero songs won't be there.
-
Step 5
Find your price range. If you're buying a complete kit, with the game and all the instruments, you'll pay around the same price for either game. But if you already have some of the instruments, you will pay more to buy the remaining instruments and the game separately.
-
Step 6
Check that you'll get the features you want with your console. Both games are available on the PS2, but offer no downloadable content. Track packs are sold separately for Rock Band, allowing even PS2 users to purchase more songs.
-
Step 7
Watch a video online or try out a friend's game to see which graphics you prefer. Rock Band and Guitar Hero each have their own specific set-up. Guitar Hero features circular graphics while Rock Band prefers small bars.
-
Step 8
Compare the instruments. Guitar Hero World Tour offers a drum kit with cymbals on top instead of at the sides like Rock Band. The Guitar Hero guitar also features a set of buttons that you can slide your fingers across for solos without having to press down, while Rock Band features smaller solo buttons that still have to be pressed.
