Things You'll Need:
- Enough for 4 average eaters
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 can each of corn and peas
- 1 box instant mashed potatoes
- paprika for seasoning
-
Step 1
Begin by browning the ground beef in a large frying pan, breaking it up with a spatula. You don't need to put oil or butter in the pan; the grease in the ground beef will be enough. When fully brown, cover the pan and drain the grease.
-
Step 2
Meanwhile...start following the box of directions for the mashed potatoes. You'll need somewhere around 10 servings, or 5 cups of mashed potatoes. Vary the amount of salt and butter you add to the potatoes to suit your taste or nutritional needs.
-
Step 3
Layer a 9x13 pan with the ground beef. While you're waiting for the mashed potatoes to finish, open a can of reduced sodium corn and sprinkle it evenly on top. Follow with peas. You can add two cans of either corn or peas, if you don't like one. Some people make a half-corn, half-peas shepherd's pie. It's up to you, the chef!
-
Step 4
Spoon the mashed potatoes onto the vegetables in big, even globs. Use a rubber spatula to smooth it. Sometimes corn or peas ends up visible on top of the mashed potatoes, so I reserve some mashed potatoes to hide them and make it neater.
-
Step 5
Sprinkle a little paprika on the top to make it look fancy, as if you spent all day making it. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes, or until hot throughout.

on 6/10/2009 Graphic simplicity. I think I won't let my dog do this though.
