How to avoid an oncoming argument with a significant other.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • To be in touch with your emotions
  1. Step 1

Understand that fights usually break out when one person or both people are inconsiderate of the other person's feelings. I know it sounds cliche, but it's true.

  2. Step 2

When you start getting agitated and start to feel like you have to defend yourself from everything they say, it means an argument is about to break out. Take a deep breathe before saying anything else.

  3. Step 3

Understand that people communicate more effectively when they're calm, so it's not like fighting will do either of you any good.

  4. Step 4

Fight the urge to raise your voice and calmly explain that you will talk to them tomorrow and that you need some time to cool off.

  5. Step 5

Understand that the person you are about to fight with is more important to you than most other people you know, so why use the energy to belittle them? What do you have to prove?

  6. Step 6
    this could be you

Appreciate the other person and respect their feelings, for you are also important to them. Don't do anything that might possibly change that.
