1
Decide what type of silk flowers you want as there are so many to choose from. A good way to narrow down the selection include matching the colors of your wedding or cake, matching your bouquet, using your favorite type of flowers, what flowers are currently in season, or flowers that represent things, such as love or eternity. You can find silk florals at craft or flower stores.
-
2
Trim the stems of the silk flowers. If you desire, you can leave on about 1 to 2 inches of stem, or remove the stem completely if you just want the blooms.

3
Decide how you want the silk flowers to be presented on the cake as a topper. There are several ideas to choose from, but make sure you are 100 percent certain about the placement before putting the flowers on the cake, because once you put them on the cake there may be a hole from the stem or an indentation where the flower was pressed.

4
Use ideas such as bunching up a small bouquet on top of the cake, adding clumps of silk flowers on different tiers, only adding flowers around the base of the cake and one at the very top, sprinkling cut petals all over the cake, or even spiraling up the flowers from the bottom tier to the top.

5
Make sure to let the cake cutters know if you want to keep the flowers or not so they don't throw them away. They can be washed easily with soap and water if you want to save them.
