How to Force a Remote Desktop to Accept Connections

The ability to remotely connect to your PC computer is built into the Windows XP and Windows Vista operating system software. By default, remote desktop access is turned on, but you can force your computer to accept remote connections as long as you are an administrator on the computer.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • PC running Windows XP or Vista
  1. Step 1

    Log on to your PC computer with an account that has administrative privileges.

  2. Step 2

    Open the Start menu by clicking on the icon in the lower-left corner.

  3. Step 3

    Right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Properties."

  4. Step 4

    Click on the "Remote" tab at the top of the "Properties" window.

  5. Step 5

    Check the box next to "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer." The system is now forced to accept remote desktop connections.
