Open G tuning is a useful tuning for playing blues (it's the tuning Keith Richards uses on many Rolling Stones songs) or slide guitar. When the open strings (no fretted notes) are hit, they play a G major chord.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Guitar
  • Tuner (preferably)
  1. Step 1

Make sure the guitar is in standard tuning (EADGBE) and in tune with itself.

  2. Step 2

Tune the sixth string (bottom string) a full step down from E to D.

  3. Step 3

Tune the fifth string a full step down from A to G.

  4. Step 4

Leave the fourth and third strings at D and G, respectively.

  5. Step 5

Leave the fifth string at B. Tune the sixth (top) string a full step down from E to D.
