How to Find Free Online Word Processing Programs
A good word-processing program is essential for school, work and personal writing. But some computers you buy do not come with one installed. They might offer one with a free trial period, but then you must pay a fee to keep using it. Instead of paying a large sum of money for a word-processing program, you might want to consider a free online option instead.

Finding Free or Low Cost Word-Processing Options
-
1
Do an Internet search to see what is available. Some sites offer reviews listing the features of the programs available and other sites are the word-processing sites themselves. Note that not all of the choices are free, so look and choose carefully to avoid an unwanted charge.
-
2
Check the Internet search results carefully. Visit and explore the websites. Read about the features each site offers to see if it suits your word-processing needs. Some will require you to download their program onto your computer, so make sure this is something that you want to do. The more programs you have on your computer, the slower it might run, so if you already have many programs on your computer, you might want to delete an unused program for the sake of keeping your computer running at its normal, healthy speed.

Check with friends, relatives and co-workers to see if anyone has had experience with programs of these types. Someone who has used the program can tell you first-hand how easy the program is to work with.

Once you choose a program, try it for a while to see how you like it, and to see how compatible it is to what you want to use it for. If you are unhappy with it, check out other free or low-cost offerings; they might better suit your needs.

See if your computer has WordPad or NotePad installed on it. While not a complete word-processing program, these programs do provide a means to type documents. They do not have spelling and grammar check, so make sure you edit any documents carefully. These programs will work in a pinch if you need to type, save and email something. Text written in these programs can always be highlighted, copied and pasted into the body of an email, or even another word-processing program if necessary.
