How to Trap Birds
If you are hunting, lost in the wilderness or need food for survival, catching a bird is one of your best bets for food. You can create a trap out of the natural elements around you. It takes some time and strategic placement of the trap, but the more signs you know to look for, the easier it will be for you to trap a bird.

1
Look for areas that birds would use as a landing place. The best place is a large clearing where there are not a lot of trees or objects for birds to land on.
-
2
Find a large, thick stick that is 5 to 6 feet long. Use a knife to sharpen both ends of the stick to sharp points.
-
-
3
Use the knife tip to pick out a small hole near the end of one side of the stick, as if you were drilling a hole. Make sure that the hole goes through the stick.
-
4
Find a smaller stick that will be small enough to insert into the hole you just made. The stick should be at least 6 inches long.
-
5
Find a rock that fits into your hand and tie a string around it securely, knotting it at the end so it stays. Insert the other end of the string through the hole in the stick.
-
6
Create a slip noose in the side of the string that you passed through the hole. It should be large enough so that both of your fists can pass through it.
-
7
Tie an overhand knot in the string right in front of the hole so that it stays put and does not slide through. Make sure the knot is positioned before the slip noose.
-
8
Insert the smaller stick into the hole slightly, so that if something lands on it, the stick falls. Rest the slip noose over the stick. Once a bird flies and lands on the stick, the stick falls because it is not secure in the hole, making the slip noose catch the bird's feet and trap it.
