1
Eat a diet high in protein and iodine. Without these nutrients your thyroid gland cannot function properly. Foods high in iodine include haddock, cod, condensed milk, eggs, cheddar cheese, sea salt, iodized salt and malt bread. Foods high in protein include beef, chicken, pork, fish, eggs, dairy, nuts, seeds and beans.

Add iodine and protein to your diet in pill form if you cannot do so with foods, or if you would simply prefer to ingest a pill. Thyromine contains iodine and protein, which will help your T3 and T4 hormones function more effectively. Consult your doctor before trying this alternative.

Take a synthetic thyroid hormone in pill form. Thyroxine is a thyroid hormone taken from the thyroid glands of pigs. You can get synthetic hormones by prescription only, so you will need to see your doctor about the possibility of using this to help cure your hypothyroidism. Other synthetic hormone prescriptions are Levoxyl, Levothroid, Unithroid, and Synthroid.

Use herbs to help stimulate your thyroid function. These helpful herbs include ashwagandha root, winter cherry, kelp, cayenne, Fucus vesiculosus and Indian ginseng. See a doctor of alternative medicine to investigate which herbs might help you. She can also tell you how much of these herbs you should be taking, and in what form.
