Cashing checks is something that everyone has to do at some point. A check can be cashed at the bank that has issued the check or at the bank where the recipient has an account. No matter which bank you use, the check must be endorsed and identification must be shown. Some banks even take a fingerprint of the check-casher, especially if he or she does not have an account at the bank. And, some banks require that you come inside the bank to cash the check and will not let you cash a check in a drive-through.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check with the individual bank about its policies for cashing a check.

  2. Step 2

Endorse, or, sign the back of the check on the line with the little "x" next to it.

  3. Step 3

Write your account number underneath the endorsement if you are cashing the check at your bank.

  4. Step 4

Present identification with the endorsed check to cash it. The bank teller will let you know whether a fingerprint or other information is needed.
