Remove Cantaloupe Seeds

Summertime fruit makes for refreshing and delicious salads and cool snacks. One of my favorite summer fruits is the cantaloupe. When you buy a cantaloupe, and it isn't ripe, leave it on the kitchen counter for a day or so to ripen. And when it comes time to preparing it to eat, the following trick will make removing the seeds a snap.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mellon
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Ice Cream Scoop
  1. Step 1

Place the melon or cantaloupe on a cutting board and cut the fruit in half. If it isn't ripe, don't cut. Let it ripen on the counter for a day or so, not in the refrigerator.

  2. Step 2

Scoop the seeds from the middle of the melon half with an ice cream scoop. Rotate the scoop in the center with the seeds, to easily scoop all the seeds out at once. Any style ice cream scoop will work.

  3. Step 3

Dump the seeds from the scoop and scoop out the second half of the melon. Remove the skins, and slice the melon into bite size pieces. Instead of slicing, don't peel - and use a melon ball-er to scoop up small balls of melon for your salad.
