Step 1
The first step in getting a natural-looking fake tan is to prepare your skin, before you even start. Use a loofah, or a scrub that is not oil-based, to gently scrub off any dead skin cells. Be especially thorough around your knees and elbows, ankles and other joints, where the tanning solution tends to show up darker when you're not being careful.
-
Step 2
Test the tanner you want to use in an inconspicuous place on your body first. You need to go through the whole process in that spot in order to be sure your using the right tanner for your skin. It will take a while, but do you REALLY want to look like a fool if it doesn't work, and you have a bad tanner all over your whole body?
-
Step 3
Once you've determined you have the right tanner, go ahead and apply it as directed. Go slowly, making sure that you apply the tanner evenly all over. Again, take special care around your knees and other joints.

on 6/12/2009 This is really good advice. ALlot of people I know wont use at home tanning supplies b/c they've had a bad experience. And the sun is just so bad for your skin.
