1
Set up a personal Facebook account. To get started, open a Web browser and navigate to the Facebook website to sign up for a free account. Fill in the requested information and click "Sign Up."
-
2
Add a profile picture to your new Facebook account. This helps people identify you. Click the "Edit Profile" button and select "Basic Information" from the left column. Type in your home town where prompted. Then select "Education and Work" from the left column. List your high school and college.

3
Click the "Account" menu in the upper right corner and select "Account Settings." Choose "General" in the left column. In the area designated for your middle name, type your maiden name. Most of your classmates will know you by that name.
-
4
Click the "Account" menu in the upper left corner of the page and select "Privacy Settings" from the drop-down menu. In the "How You Connect" section, click "Edit Settings." Set the first three items to "Everyone." This allows individuals searching for you by name to see your profile. It also allows individuals to send you friend requests and Facebook messages. All of these are important, if you want to reconnect with classmates.
-
5
Locate the search box at the top of the Facebook page. Type the name of a particular classmate in the box. Likely, several individuals have that name. Use the accompanying photo to try to identify your former classmate. Click on a name to view more details. When you identify a classmate, click the "Message" button in the upper right corner to send a message to the individual or click "Add Friend" to send a friend request. Click "Add a personal message" to tell the person who you are and mention your former connection. If she doesn't recognize your name, she may not accept your friend request.
-
6
Rather than searching for former classmates one person at a time, search on the name of your school and your graduation date. Go back to the search box at the top of the page and type the exact name of your high school or college into the search box. Add your class year or graduation year to return fewer names. View the search results and send friend requests to any classmates you recognize.
-
7
Use the Classmate Search feature on Facebook. Input the school name, year and individual's name. If he has listed this information on his Facebook profile, his name should come up.
-
8
After you have identified several former classmates, look closely at their friend lists. It is likely they are already friends with other former classmates. You can click on the link to anyone you once knew and send a friend request.
