Use spoon to combine ingredients until well mixed. Spoon mixture into a snack-size plastic bag and close top carefully. Label as Sloppy Joe Seasoning Mix and store in a cool, dry place or in freezer. Use within 6 months. One recipe equals about 2 tablespoons of mix.

  3. Step 3

To use mix for Sloppy Joes:

Brown 1 lb. lean ground beef in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Drain excess grease. Add seasoning mix, 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce, 1/2 cup water, and 2 tablespoons of ketchup or barbecue sauce and bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve over toasted hamburger buns.

Tips & Warnings
  • Adjust seasoning mix ingredients to suit your own preferences.
  • If dried green pepper flakes are hard to find, omit from mix and add 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh green pepper to skillet when preparing Sloppy Joe meat.

on 7/17/2009 This is great...I just introduced my wife (who is from Russia) to Sloppy Joe. We used the supermarket manwich brand. Now we can do it from scratch and that is our preference in all our cooking. Thanks...5*
