How to Make Your Own Dora the Explorer Map
Dora the Explorer is a highly popular character with preschoolers. In each episode, Dora follows a map to get to a destination. There is always two obstacles to cross before she can get to her destination. You can make your own Dora the Explorer map by using a fun printable from the Dora the Explorer website. Its a great craft idea for a Dora themed party, or just a rainy Saturday to keep the kids busy. Here's how.

Print the Dora the Explorer printable map from the Dora the Explorer website (See Resource below.)

Color the map with your markers. Decide on a special destination. Maybe it's Grandma's house, the garden or the toy store. Draw this in the last box.

Choose two obstacles that you must meet before getting to your destination. The first can be the place where you will be when you start the map, such as your house or your bedroom. The second can be something you will see on the way, such as the driveway, a hopscotch or a puddle. Draw this in the second box.

Make the map more fun by choosing obstacles that will require special actions to get through them, such as hopping, climbing or jumping. You can give these obstacles fun names like the show; Crocodile Rock, Rainbow Bridge, etc.

Make your own map without a printable by simply doing steps 1-4 on a plain sheet of paper. Decorate, and put a big 'x' at the destination point.

Place the map in a backpack so that you or your child can be just like Dora the Explorer.

Hello - I find that the link for "Dora Map Printable" will bring one to the Nick Jr. site, not a printable map as is described in the first three steps above. I'm also not able to find a printable map on the Nick Jr. site. Could the link listed in this eHow be reviewed and updated?
