Two of the main record-keeping organizations for whitetail deer antlers are the Boone and Crockett Club and the Pope and Young Club. As part of their record-keeping, each club relies upon volunteer measurers who are certified by the group and are available to measure the antlers of the whitetail deer (and other big-game animals) that hunters shoot.     How to Apply to Become a Certified Measurer of Whitetail Deer Antlers

  1. Step 1

    Download an application from the Pope and Young Club (www.pope-young.org), or the Boone and Crockett Club (www.boone-crockett.org). Otherwise, applications can be requested via mail. The address for the Pope and Young Club is: PO Box 548, Chatfield, Minn., 55923. The address for the Boone and Crockett Club is 250 Station Drive, Missoula, Mont., 59801, Attn: Records Dept.

  2. Step 2

    Fill out the application form completely. It requires such information as name and address; your history in hunting; whether you have experience measuring game animals; and the names of references.

  3. Step 3

    Become a member of the group for which you want to become a certified measurer, if you have not already joined. Both groups encourage prospective measurers to first be members of the group.

  4. Step 4

    Wait for the club to contact you about your application after you've sent it in. Both clubs invite select applicants to measurer training classes, after which they certify volunteer measurers.
