Greek helmets are dramatic to draw. Their sharp lines, facial plates and Mohawks were designed for Greek soldiers to intimidate their opponents, and are now an iconic image seen in films on ancient Greece. Their style has also been interpreted for fantasy and science fiction stories.

      Draw the basic outline of the Greek helmet.

      Look at the image guide of a Greek helmet, provided in the Resources section below. Draw the basic outline of the skullcap of the helmet, the Mohawk and the facial plate.

      Sketch the exact design of the Greek helmet in greater detail.

      Sketch the exact design of the Greek helmet in greater detail. Draw the eyeholes, nose plate and the outline of the dragon head at the top of the Greek helmet, between the Mohawk and the skullcap.

      Draw the designs on the Greek helmet.

      Draw the designs that are on the Greek helmet. The Greek helmet has a thin border around the perimeter and a spiral design on the skullcap. The head of the dragon should also be drawn out in detail, noting the eye and open mouth, with its sharp tongue sticking out.

      Shade in the Greek helmet.

      Study the image of the Greek helmet again, noting the light and dark points. Sketch the lightest points on the Greek helmet, then the darker and darker points. For the inside of the Greek helmet, use your black charcoal pencil.

      Draw dense, vertical lines on the mohawk of the Greek Helmet.

      Draw dense, vertical lines on the Mohawk of the Greek helmet. By doing this after shading in the light and dark points on the Mohawk, you'll produce a very dramatic effect.
