How to Wrap Gifts with Tissue Paper

Tissue paper is often used as a filler in gift bags and boxes, but it makes an attractive wrapping all on its own. The gauzy appearance is attractive and whimsical, making it a nice alternative to traditional paper. Tissue paper is thinner than wrapping paper, meaning that it needs to be layered in order to not be see-through. This gives you the opportunity to experiment with different colors and textures of tissue paper to cause different effects as you layer the paper.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay down a sheet of white or light pastel-colored tissue paper. On top of this, lay down a dark-colored sheet.

    • 2

Place your gift in the center of the tissue paper. For an odd-shaped gift, position the gift so that it is sitting on the flattest side.

    • 3

Gather up the edges of the tissue paper, being careful to gather both layers of paper. Gather them to the top of the gift and twist lightly to hold the gather in place.

    • 4

Wrap tape around the gathered area to hold it securely. Your gift should now be wrapped in the tissue with a puff of tissue at the top.

    • 5

Cut a 1-foot length of ribbon, and wrap it around the tape to hide it. Tie it in a large bow. Fluff the tissue paper gather until it is full.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a decorative paper punch to punch holes in the top layer of tissue and allow the bottom color to show through Use several colors of curling ribbon to hide the tape and add to the appearance of the gather.
