Things You'll Need:
- Piece of paper same size as the brochure you want
- Microsoft Word 2004
-
Step 1
Fold the piece of paper to create a "dummy" brochure. This gives you a visual model to refer to while working in Word.
-
Step 2
Illustration of a Brochure Dummy (One Side)Make some notes on the dummy brochure to remind yourself where you want items such as the title, main graphic and different pieces of information. This will help you to place the graphics and text in the right column and on the right side of the paper when you're designing the brochure in Word.
-
Step 3
Open Microsoft Word. If the Project Gallery window doesn't open automatically, click the File menu, then Project Gallery.
-
Step 4
Word 2004 Project GalleryClick the Business Forms category in the list on the left, then choose Brochures from the sub-list.
-
Step 5
Choose a template that best matches the type of brochure you want to create. Even if you want to delete all the template placeholders and start from scratch, beginning with a template at least sets the margins and page orientation for you so you don't need to waste time with that extra step.
-
Step 6
Click the Open button to begin working with the template.
-
Step 1
The Brochure Wizard WindowEnter address information in the Brochure Wizard window that opens on the right side of the screen.
-
Step 2
Brochure Wizard Layout OptionsClick the Layout tab on the left side of the Brochure Wizard window and make selections based on the type of brochure you want to create. Word offers tables, lists, schedules and form designs it will auto-generate for you.
-
Step 3
Brochure Wizard Theme and Color OptionsClick the Theme tab on the left side of the Brochure Wizard to choose your colors. You can choose one of the subject themes and a color scheme.
-
Step 4
Click the "Save and Exit" button at the bottom of the wizard window to save your changes and begin working on the brochure document.
-
Step 1
Click to Edit Text BoxesClick the text placeholders to access the text and change it. Simply click and type. Drag over text to highlight it for formatting changes or to delete it.
-
Step 2
Format Picture Dialog BoxDouble click on graphics to access the Format Picture dialog box and click the Size button at the top. If you wish to change a graphic in the brochure template, you need to make sure the one you replace it with is the same size or you'll throw the layout off. This dialog box gives you the dimensions of the selected graphic.
-
Step 3
Click the Insert menu and the Picture command to bring in your own graphics from a file or to grab a picture from Word's clip art gallery that comes installed with the software.
-
Step 4
Move text boxes, headings or graphics around on the template if your brochure design isn't the same as what the template offers. The entire document is completely editable.
-
Step 5
Scroll to the second page of the document. This is what will print on the back of the first page, so that together, when the page is folded, it creates a complete brochure.
-
Step 6
Click the File menu and the Save command to save frequently while you work. Use the File menu and the Print command to preview your brochure.
