Prime the ProAir inhaler. This should be done before you use the albuterol sulfate inhalation solution for the first time, or after the inhaler has not been used for more than 2 weeks. To do this, release three sprays into the air before inserting the inhaler into the mouth.

2
Shake the ProAir canister before you plan to use it. Give the inhaler a few good shakes before you inhale the solution.

3
Use the ProAir inhaler when you experience bronchospasm symptoms. This includes wheezing, shortness of breath or chest pain. A physician will likely recommend that you take two inhalations and then repeat the dose 4 hours later.

Prevent bronchospasm caused by exercise. To keep this from occurring, a doctor may recommend that you use the albuterol sulfate inhaler 1/2 hour before you work out. Two inhalations will also likely be recommended.

5
Clean the mouthpiece of the ProAir inhaler to keep the inhaler hygienic for use. Run the mouthpiece under warm water for several minutes once a week. Allow the mouthpiece to air-dry before reattaching it to the inhaler.
