Most of us have odds & ends in our homes that can make for great decorating accessories and rearranging. Like our closets, sometimes when we are looking for that perfect accessory and think to go shopping for it...well, sometimes if your budget does not allow then it means looking within your own closet to be creative and find the accessory that will work. Same can go for your home too.

Things You'll Need:

  • Creativity
  1. Step 1

Old posters, artwork, postcards, textiles - can all be turned into new art for your walls. Dust off the old prints sitting in a closet and hang on a wall or rearrange some existing artwork to freshen up your home. Posters rolled up and stashed away can be taken for framing or frame yourself by going out to an art store or even Target sells frames of all sizes. Postcards that were collected on a trip or given to you make for great display as well. Have them framed or frame yourself too. Have a great piece of fabric? Hanging fabric on a wall (especially over a place like a bed) is isntatn artwork.

  2. Step 2

Another persons trash in one persons treasure: old pieces of furniture can come to life again by painting, staining, refinish, recovering, etc. A client of mine took her old nightstands and her young daughter's each painted them in a fun color and are now enjoying their "new" night tables. Another client of mine had an old desk that she was about to get rid of but instead opted to paint the old wood roll top desk white for her daughter's bedroom. Many of those old pieces of furniture in your home can come to life again.

  3. Step 3

Displaying accessories: Odds & ends make great vignettes and many of your tired old accessories may just need to be shifted around a bit and displayed differently to feel new again. Be creative and take platters, trays, vases from the kitchen to use on coffee tables, console tables, shelves, etc. Likewise with old lamps - paint them, get a new lampshades, move them around for a whole new look.
