Step 1
Get off the road. Before you begin to change your tire, make sure you are off the road and in a safe place away from traffic. After you have decided that the situation is safe enough to change your tire, loosen the lug nuts, but do not take them off the whole way.
-
Step 2
Find a sturdy area under your car to place the jack. Make sure the area underneath your car is solid so that you can raise the car up for the tire change. After the jack is in place raise the car up so that the tire is off the ground.
-
Step 3
Take the lug nuts off. After the tire is lifted off the ground take the lug nuts the rest of the way off. Take the old tire off and place the new or spare tire on the car. Tighten the lug nuts. If the wheel turns while you are attempting to tighten the lug nuts lower the car until the tire is touching the ground, but not all the way. You should be able to tighten up the bolts, make sure you tighten them as tight as possible.
-
Step 4
Lower your car. After you have completed all of these steps, to change your tire, you can lower your car back down to the ground completely.

on 6/10/2009 Great info on changing a tire.I blew a tire on the 91 fwy in Long Beach and took the next off ramp and pulled into a business parking lot alongside a busy roadway. I am a woman, anyway, a truck with 6 young men pulled into the parking lot to watch me change the tire commenting about how they never knew a woman could change one... Anyway, not one offered to help other than saying comments about how I apparently knew what I was doing! When I finished I got back into my car and drove off, never saying a word to those Chavanistic idiots!

on 6/9/2009 I agree with tracysmith. My instructions would tell how to put up the hood. I just put up the hood and help comes soon after.
