How to Apply and Qualify for Food Stamps

Follow the simple steps below to find out how to both qualify and apply for Food Stamp Benefits .

1. As your first step you will need to determine if you qualify for food stamp benefits . To qualify you must be below a certain income level , this income level varies from state to state . Visit SocialSecurity.gov to check the eligibility requirements in your state.

   Apart from income requirements , it is also necessary for you to be a U.S citizen , be over the age of 18 , and have under a certain amount of liquid assets , i.e. cars , cash , bank accounts , etc.

2. Once you have determined that you are indeed eligible to receive Food Stamps , you will need to get together all of the required documents to apply. You will need the following documents to apply for Food Stamps :

   Drivers License or State Issued ID
   Social Security Card
   Proof of liquid assets (If applicable)

   Be sure to check with your states Social Security Office website to confirm whether or not any additional documents are required.

3. Now that you have all required documents together , you are ready to apply for Food Stamps. Fill out the Food Stamps application form and turn it in . You will then be directed to speak with a case worker . The case worker will tell you how much money in Food Stamps you are eligible to receive each month.

   Note : If you are physically unable to visit the Social Security office , you may have a family member apply on your behalf.
