How to weed your garden while pulling most of the root system up from the weeds.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gardening Gloves-opt.
  • Rake
  1. Step 1

No one likes to weed the garden as it seems like you just finish when it's time to do it again. Its hard to do and a back breaking job on top of that but we all love seeing those beautiful flowers grow. Why not take advantage of the rainy weather and save yourself some time? Then, on a beautiful sunny day you can enjoy your garden without looking at those horrible weeds and sweating in the heat to pull them out.

  2. Step 2

I find it is easier to weed my many gardens after the heavy rains. This is the best time to do it because the soil is wet and easy to work with.

When you weed with wet soil, you can usually pull up most of the root system from the weeds. Lately where I live it has been raining a lot. With these heavy rains we have problems with weeds coming about more often so to keep from having to weed as much I do it after a heavy rain or good watering of my gardens. This allows me to enjoy having gardens instead of them always being such a task and so annoying. You can grab a handfull of the weeds at once and it's so much faster to do it this way. If you weed in dry soil, it's harder to pull them up and takes forever to finish whereas doing it in wet soil is so much quicker and easier.

  3. Step 3

Another thing I have learned to do, is when I want to dig holes for planting, again I wait until after a heavy rain or a good watering of the garden. Then I am able to use a post digger to dig my holes and I don't have to worry about the dirt flying all over the place and back into the hole I am digging. Plus when you are planting it requires you to fill the hole with water. If you wait until a heavy rain or good watering of your garden, you don't have to worry about using your hose again. With the high cost of water these days it makes sense to use what mother nature is giving us for free "Rain."

Tips & Warnings
  • Please note I am not a professional gardener, but I do work in my gardens often and I try my best to find ways to make it easier and less costly. You should always check with the planters guide for the items you are planting to be sure it is safe to plant the way I have suggested. Good Luck and happy gardening.
