Farm Town

Many people join Facebook and other social networking sites for the applications and games. And if you're familiar with the most addicting games on Facebook, you must know Farm Town.

Farm Town is a simple concept. Really, it's a lot like the Sim games (The Sims, Sim City, Sim Tower, etcetera etcetera), except in this one, you build a farm instead of a city or tower or whatnot. The bonus about Farm Town is that it is interactive and online, and your friends can help you harvest and vice-versa. Plus, since you log into Facebook everyday, why not maintain a farm while you're at it? But sometimes, you will need some major coinage.

And if your crops are growing and you have time to spare, you might want to check out the Marketplace in Farm Town. Here, farmers and harvesters can get together and help each other out. But a problem I hear a lot is, it's hard to get work.

So how do you make yourself stand out as a harvester in the Marketplace in Farm Town? Here are some tips to help you get jobs quicker, easier and waste less time begging to random farmers in the chatroom.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    DON'T BEG.
First off, according to the Farm Town forums, a lot of farmers will not hire people that beg in the Marketplace. So don't say, "hire me please!" or "Need a job!" or be annoying in any other way, shape or form--its a big turnoff when you look that desperate!

  2. Step 2

    MAKE YOURSELF VISIBLE.
When you load into the marketplace on Farm Town, you'll show up right in the middle. Make yourself stand out. Move your character around the room, or pick an area and let people know where you are. For example, hang out by the crates and let people know you're there if they need you. Also, if you chat with other farmers and harvesters, a speech bubble will show up above your character, drawing attention to you as well. Use all these techniques together to get noticed!

  3. Step 3

    BE A TREE HUGGER.
Let people know that you will not harvest trees unless you are asked. A lot of people that play Farm Town like to keep their trees with the fruit on them because they look nice, so before you get work, let them know you will listen to any instructions they may have regarding their land and how they want it harvested.

  4. Step 4

    DON'T BE A JERK.
No one likes a Nasty Nellie. Be nice to other people in the Farm Town Marketplace chatroom, spark up a friendly conversation, and be careful not to make any sexist, racist, or religious pokes--you never know who is in the marketplace with you.

  5. Step 5

    MARKET TO MARKET.
If you're having trouble getting a job in one marketplace, click the Go Home button and then go back to the marketplace. Theres more than one marketplace in Farm Town, so be sure to utilize the other rooms--you might have better luck.

  6. Step 6

    LANGUAGE BARRIERS.
Here's a trick--go into different language rooms. I've jumped into the French room before and found consistent work. It's amazing how much less competition there is in other Farm Town language marketplaces.

  7. Step 7

    USE YOUR FRIENDS.
If you have other friends playing Farm Town, agree to harvest for each other. If you have numerous friends and neighbors in the Farm Town game, you'll always have someone's plants to harvest.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember, harvesting for another farmer in Farm Town is a win/win situation--you get paid 25 percent of the value of the harvested crop, and the farmer that hired you makes more money on the crop in general, so there is quite the competition to help someone out.
  • When you're hired in the marketplace on Farm Town, immediately add the farmer as a buddy--the servers can be pretty iffy sometimes and you can lose a job by being booted after a server disconnect on Farm Town. Add them as a buddy so you can go right back to their farm for a rehire.
