Step 1
Find the link to create your widget on your eHow profile pageLog into your eHow account and go to your profile page.
In the lower left hand corner of the page, you will see the words "CUSTOM WIDGET".
There is a picture of a sample widget and below the picture you will see a "GET STARTED" button. Press the "Get Started Button" to go to the next step. -
Step 2
You can make adjustments later to the widget embed code to resize itYou will now be on the page with the HTML code that is required to add the eHow widget to your blog, website or other social networking site.
In the center of the screen you will see the "WIDGET EMBED CODE".
To the right of the Widget Embed Code you will see a preview of how your widget will look. Each time you update your featured articles, this widget will automatically update on your site. -
Step 3
Paste the code into WordPad or other word processing programPress the yellow "COPY to CLIPBOARD" button beneath the Widget Embed Code box.
Open up the wordpad program (typically in your accessories file) or other wordprocessing program on your computer.
Paste this code into WordPad or other word processing program -
Step 4
Adjusting the width and height of the eHow widget is easyThis is where you will make adjustments to the widget. You can adjust both the width and the height of the widget to fit in your sidebar or other area of your blog, website or social networking page.
In the picture here, you will see the word/numbers: width="175" height="450" highlighted in yellow. (for demonstration only)
These are the numbers that you can adjust so that the widget will fit perfectly on your site. -
Step 5
Paste the code into your website/blog for more traffic to eHowGo to your blog (or other site) and find out how wide the column is on the sidebar or where ever you plan to install the eHow widget. If you are unsure, you should be able to find out right in the administrative or design section of the site you run.
Wordpress.com and Blogger.com columns are typically 160px to 200px wide, but this depends on your layout.
If you know the exact column width, you can change the "width" number from 300 (that's the width of the widget is when you initially copy the code)to whatever the width is. Anything smaller than 155 will be VERY narrow and hard to read.
The height is pre-set at 450px but you can make that number bigger or smaller. Remember, the shorter the height, the fewer articles will show up in the widget. Aim for no less than 400px for height.
Copy your newly updated code and paste it into your widget box or other area where you paste code on your blog or website. -
Step 6
The best way to adjust the fit if you do not know the exact width of the area you are going to install your eHow widget is to paste the original code (from Step 3)into your site and then adjust it slightly until you reach the width number that fits perfectly on your site. Do the same with the height.
