Add lemon juice to your salsa.

Fresh salsa makes a great condiment or chip dip and can be used to add flavor to many recipes. Enjoy this simple, easy, basic, mild salsa that is perfect for parties, entertaining, or your favorite tortilla chips.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 5 ripe Roma tomatoes (diced)
  • 4 tbsp. green pepper (1/4 cup finely chopped)
  • 2 tbsp. red onion (1/8 cup finely chopped)
  • 3 tbsp. cilantro (finely chopped)
  • 1 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp. lemon or lime juice
  • pinch of sea salt or kosher salt
  • pinch of course ground black peppercorn
  • pinch of sugar (optional)
  1. Step 1

Prepare ingredients listed to the right. Dice and chop carefully as required, using a quality kitchen knife and cutting board.

  2. Step 2

Combine all ingredients into a medium size bowl. Mix thoroughly. Your salsa should appear chunky. For a juicier salsa, slide blended ingredients into a food processor and pulse to desired consistency.

  3. Step 3

Cover bowl and place in your refrigerator for at least one hour. This will allow the flavors to blend.

  4. Step 4

Serve salsa with your favorite tortilla chips (Santitas, Tostitos, etc.). Or, use the salsa as a condiment or topping for your favorite foods and meals (burritos, tacos, meatloaf, baked potatoes, salads, etc.) This mild salsa serves 4-6 people.

  5. Step 5

Double the recipe for larger crowds. Save leftover salsa for snacking, or other dinner ideas. Read my tips below for additional ways to enjoy this simple and delicious salsa.

Tips & Warnings
  • For a sweeter taste, add 1/4 cup of diced mango.
  • For a hotter salsa, add 1 seeded and diced jalapeno.
  • Experiment. Try different tomato and onion varieties.
  • For a twist on the recipe, add two tbsp. of mild green chiles.
  • Be careful not to add too many onions, peppers, or salt. Remember to taste test. You can always add a bit more of your favorite ingredient later.
