Step 1
Clematis 'Capitaine Thuilleaux'Grow Clematis where the feet are in shade and the rest of the plant stretches into the sunshine. Not great plants to grow in hot, dry climates, Clematis prefers cooler climates with ordinary, well drained soil. In warmer areas, Clematis may do better with dappled shade rather than full sun.
-
Step 2
Plant Clematis a couple of inches deeper than it is grown at the nursery if you buy it in a pot.
-
Step 3
Clematis 'Kakio'There are many different varieties in red purples, whites, blues, pinks, lavender and blended colors. Many of these have huge, showy flowers. There are some less commonly grown Clematis plants with yellow flowers and some have frilly, decorative seed heads.
-
Step 4
Clematis 'Princess Diana'Use Clematis as a decoration for a trellis, fence or to wrap around posts. Most have a delicate twining habit with rich green leaves and flowers decorative enough to make a well grown Clematis worthy of being the focal point in a garden. Clematis looks most at home in a woodsy environment, but will fit into any style landscape.
-
Step 5
Grow Clematis in the garden for big flowers and as a color accent. Preferring a good soil with plenty of humus, give your plant regular water and the Clematis should be a relatively easy plant to grow.

on 6/11/2009 I love my clematis. They are such show-stoppers and need so little attention. Wish they floweed longer, but you're right, they are worth waiting for each spring and give so much pleasure!

on 6/9/2009 Gorgeous photo and beautiful article about growing clematis. Unfortunately, I just had to cut my clematis down as it unexpectedly just withered and died. No idea why and I already miss it. Didn't even get to see one flower...
