Yes, oatmeal is good for you, but it can be boring if you eat it every morning. One way to give oatmeal a whole new flavor is to add the sweet taste of chocolate to create dark chocolate oatmeal. Not only will it taste good, but you'll get the health benefits of the flavonoids naturally found in dark chocolate. Here's how to make dark chocolate oatmeal.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • crockpot
  • water
  • old-fashioned oatmeal
  • Hershey's Special Dark chocolate or other dark chocolate cocoa powder
  • salt
  1. Step 1

It's most convenient to make dark chocolate oatmeal in a crockpot. You can place the ingredients in the crockpot and allow it to cook overnight. When you wake up, the delicious smells of hot cereal will fill the kitchen.

  2. Step 2

Place three cups of water in the crockpot and add a cup and a half of old fashioned, rolled oats.

  3. Step 3

Add three tablespoons of Hershey's Special Dark cocoa powder to the crockpot. Using special dark cocoa powder will add more heart healthy flavonoids.

  4. Step 4

Add a pinch of salt to taste.

  5. Step 5

Mix the ingredients and turn the crockpot on low.

  6. Step 6

When you wake up the next morning, pour the dark chocolate oatmeal into a bowl. For additional chocolate flavor, sprinkle with dark chocolate chips. You can also use a knife to make chocolate shavings from a dark chocolate candy bar.

  7. Step 7

If you want your dark chocolate oatmeal to be sweeter, add a small amount of agave nectar syrup or maple syrup before serving. Add milk if desired. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also sprinkle dark chocolate oatmeal with cinnamon or vanilla powder for additional flavor.
  • Try adding crushed almonds or walnuts to your dark chocolate oatmeal. Healthy and delicious!
