How to Create a Column Chart

To create a column chart, you will need to use a word processing software that gives you this option. Microsoft Word is an example of a word processing software program that has the capability of helping you create the type of column chart that you want.

Instructions

      Open Microsoft Word by clicking twice on its icon. Click on the "Insert" drop-down menu. Put the cursor over the word "Picture." Another drop-down menu will appear, giving you several options.

      Click twice on the word "Chart." A chart will appear in your document. Put the cursor in the center of the chart and double click it. A toolbar that includes the chart menu will appear at the top of the document.

      Click the "Chart" drop-down menu and scroll to Chart Type. Click "Chart Type." A Chart Type window will pop up. You will see 2 tabs: Standard Types and Custom Types.

      Click "Column" under the list of options on the left side of the Standard Types tab under Chart Type. Look under the list of options on the right side of the Standard Types tab under Chart sub-type and click the option you want. You can preview what your chart will look like by clicking the button toward the right side that says "Press and Hold to View Sample." Click "OK" at the bottom right side of the Standard Types tab.
