How to Make Cookies for Babies

If your baby is teething and starting to eat solid food, you are probably looking for treats that are healthful and will soothe sore gums and help those little teeth poke through. There are many recipes available for baby cookies and teething biscuits.
This is a basic recipe that makes a firm cookie for your baby to gnaw on. You can experiment with adding spices such as ginger or cinnamon, or food grade extracts like vanilla, lemon, or peppermint to provide some variety and extra flavor.

Things You'll Need

  • 1/2 cube butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup flour (white or whole wheat)
  • 1 tbsp. of beaten egg
  • Cream butter and sugar together until smooth and creamy.

  • Add flour and mix well.

  • Add 1 tbsp. beaten egg and stir well to make dough.

  • Form dough into small balls and roll these into stubby cigar shapes. These are easier for babies to hold in their fists.

  • Bake in oven set to 275 degrees for 45 minutes. Turn the cookies over and bake for another 10 minutes to harden them.

Tips & Warnings

  • Experiment with different flavors and types of flour. Whole wheat flour makes a harder cookie while white flour makes a tastier one. Instead of egg, try moistening the dough with apple juice, apple sauce or mashed bananas.
  • Do not leave your child alone while she is eating these. Even though the cookies are hard, your baby will eventually chew off pieces. These will usually dissolve, but be on the lookout for possible choking hazards.
