How to Repair a Rocking Toilet

Over time and after many uses, toilets can gradually work free of the flange plate that secures the toilet firmly to the floor. This situation can be easily corrected by tightening the flange bolt nuts on each side of the toilet until the toilet is securely connected to the flange plate.
This is a simple repair that can be completed in 10 minutes or less. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

      Locate the two plastic, oval shaped bolt covers on opposite sides of the base of the toilet. (see photo).

      Remove the covers to expose the flange bolt and nut that secures the toilet to the floor.

      Adjust crescent wrench to fit the nut on the flange bolt.

    • 4

      Firmly tighten the nut on the flange bolt by turning it in a clockwise direction.

    • 5

      Repeat step 4 on opposite side nut on the flange bolt.

    • 6

      Replace the flange bolt covers and snap these into place.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the toilet frequently works loose from the flange, plate lock washers may be placed between the nut and flange bolt.

  • Do not over tighten the flange nut as it may damage the toilet base.
