How to Make a Bun With a Hairpiece

  1. Step 1

Find a hairpiece that matches your hair color.

  2. Step 2

Draw your hair into a small bun or ponytail wherever you want the hairpiece to go. To make a small bun, simply loop your hair in half and hold it in place with a ponytail holder. You may have to loop your hair in half more than once depending on how long your natural hair is.

  3. Step 3

Attach your hairpiece by placing it above your bun or ponytail. Some hairpieces have clips already or bobby pin slots to attach the piece.

  4. Step 4

Tuck your natural hair underneath your hairpiece and finish securing the hairpiece with the clips or bobby pins. The hairpiece should be snug; if not, redo steps two and three.

  5. Step 5

Twist your hairpiece clockwise, so it looks like a rope.

  6. Step 6

Wrap the hair rope from the hairpiece around the clips and bobby pins, creating a center for the bun. Continue wrapping around until you run out of hair.

  7. Step 7

Secure your hair-rope-turned-bun with bobby pins around the sides of the bun to keep it in place.

  8. Step 8

Add accessories to your bun. Decorative clips or flowers will dress up your hair for a prom, wedding or special occasion.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have particularly thick hair, you may need multiple ponytails to start to either hide your hair or to hold in the hairpiece. You can place the hairpiece atop for a structured look, in the middle for a more classic look, or lower for classy or casual. For a messy bun look, do not twist your hairpiece into a rope. Simply wrap the hairpiece around your ponytail.
