Peripartum cardiomyopathy is a rare heart disorder in which a weakened heart is diagnosed during pregnancy or soon after delivery, without other identifiable causes for Dilated Cardiomyopathy. Dilated Cardiomypathy is when the heart becomes weakened and enlarged, and can't pump blood efficently. The decreased heart function can affect the lungs, liver, and other body systems. Approximately 1,000 women are diagnosed with Peripartum Cardiomyopathy in the United States each year.
